Cleaning Tar and Carbon Black
The most common use of carbon black is for the pigment and reinforcing phase of automobile tires; it also goes into the production of other non-tire rubber goods. It is the result of the incomplete combustion of heavy petroleum products such as tar. Imagine cleaning a furnace or fireplace filled with soot. Depending on what kind of work you do, this clean up may be regular to remove carbon black rubber, or activated charcoal and graphite. What do you use to clean that carbon black dust off with?
De-Solv-it Cleans Soot and Carbon Black
To remove carbon black dust or soot from skin or hair you can use a variety of methods. If the carbon black stained your hands, spray the specialty cleaner, Pro De-Solv-it Contractors’ Solvent or Pro De-Solv-it Mechanics’ Solvent, into the palm of your hands and rub your hands together like you would if you were washing your hands with soap and water; follow-up with washing your hands with mild soap and water.
If the carbon dust stained a large surface area of body, spray the degreaser citrus onto a wash cloth and wipe your body down with the cloth. To clean your hair with the citrus cleaning solvent, spray it directly onto your hair. Follow-up with mild soap/ shampoo and a shower, as the active ingredient (citrus oils) will leave your skin oily.
To remove soot, asphalt or carbon dusts from clothing spray the citrus-based degreaser on both sides of the stained area of fabric, and let sit for 1-2 minutes. Blot the area with a cloth, and then spray the citrus cleaning solvent again prior to washing according to the manufacturer’s direction. DO NOT use on khaki-colored fabrics, silk, or suede and leather as these may darken from the oils in these products.
To remove asphalt, tar, soot or carbon black dust from hard surfaces, spray the Contractors’ Solvent or Mechanics’ Solvent on the stained area and wipe with a cloth. After removal, rinse the hard surface with water, or if inside, saturate a clean cloth and wipe the surface with the water soaked towel. Then dry with a towel or cloth.
Each De-Solv-it heavy duty remover is biodegradable, eco-friendly and 100% organic.
